New Faces and new Places!
On Monday we got to spend the day with food services Freshmen orientation team!
(Orientation team preforming UGA cheers- also know as "calling the Dawgs")
The orientation team, was a blast to work with. They worked hard all day and had a positive attitude and fun spirit. They spend their day going to the different places on campus that the freshmen have orientation, and assisting them. They help check them in the first morning of orientation. They then go over to the dinning commons and count meal tickets, hold doors, and assist them further in learning about UGA's meal plan. The meal plan is optional for students living in the dorms. The UGA food service orientation team, works hard to help freshmen understand all the meal plan has to offer and why it is the best choice for them.
The orientation team, also greets the students into the banquet dinner, by teaching them their first "dog call" before they head into dinner.

Catering ~
On Tuesday, we got in bright and early and helped the Catering team set up for the breakfast buffet for parents of the students at freshmen orientation. We got to see what goes into catering and more about the set up. We also got to see all the little details and what to plan for and correct in catering and event.
All about retail~
On Wednesday and Thursday we went and saw the retail side of food service at UGA. There is a whole section of food service that is just retail, which includes all there eateries and cafes. These eateries and cafes are well placed on campus for convenience of students and faculty, especially for those who are not on the meal plan or are not near a dinning court. They can simply pop into one of these conveniently located stores and get a hot entree, a hot or cold sandwich or simply coffee. These shops offer a wide variety of options.
These different retail facilities also put on special events through out the summer. They recently did a cook out at "Dawg bones" the eatery located on the Veterinary hospital part of campus.
Further construction ~
We ended our day on Thursday by attending a meeting about the new Bolton hall. This will replace the current Bolton dinning commons. Though we didn't entirely understand everything they were talking about in this construction meeting. I learned a lot about all the different components and team members that going into constructing a building, and all the ways in which things may not go according to plan. It seemed to be very important that they prepared ahead of time for the "speed bumps" that may arise. They also had to leave room in their budget for these delays.
"We're here to mock you"~
Well not really on Friday we spend that day doing a Quality Assurance check in Bolton hall. This included a self audit about the cleanliness and health of the work environment, employees and food. We check freezers and refrigerators to make sure everything was properly labeled and stored. We also checked the conditions of the work stations, stock room, food prep area, temperatures of the food and customer service of the employees. Using these new found skills we went to Snelling dinning commons and preformed a mock health inspection. I'm happy to report both places did very well.
We had some mild weather this week which was a perfect time to be outside and enjoy it! The picture above is a beautiful Georgia sunset over a field.
