University of Oklahoma- Week 7! It's almost over! =/

Week 7
This week has been kind of a smorgasbord of stuff. We spent a little bit of time with Sean Bacon, the Business Systems Manager. He told us all about Micros, the program used to run all the registers on campus, and C-board, which we still don’t quite understand. When you talk to Sean, you get the feeling that he just messes around all day and doesn’t actually do any work. But after spending a few hours with him and getting the feel of his job, I noticed that he has a lot of responsibilities! He somewhat manages C-board (which is complicated), he is constantly being run all over campus when the registers in various locations decide not to work, and he also has different projects that he is working on. Because Sean did not get to show us all of the ins and outs of his job all day, he got roped into taking us to the city for a US Foods for a tour (but really, I’m sure he wanted to do it). Frank Henry came along as well! It was a fun day. US Foods is the provider for every foodservice operation on campus aside from the chain restaurants. It’s basically a big warehouse that gets produce and dry goods from vendors then ships it to various locations. The basics of what I learned about US Foods is this:
Ø  They don’t put like items next to each other so it is less likely to miss-pull something, such as grab Cumin instead of Cinnamon
Ø  They have some CNG natural gas trucks that transfer goods to locations right outside the city because it’s more fuel efficient.
Ø  The automatic refrigerator and freezer doors open and close at 100 inches per second!
Ø  The refrigerator loading dock is the same temperature as the refrigerator itself so there is not so many temperature jumps within the food.
Ø  The dry storage is the best area because it is warm J
1,000+ pound batteries used to power the stocking machines

Our in-service presentation is finally done and over with, and we ROCKED IT! (Just sayin’) It was called Sugar-Sweetened Beverages: How Big is Your Sweet Tooth? I’m not sure how happy people were about us knocking their favorite drinks, but hey, love is pain. 20-25 people showed up; including Sean Bacon, who came in AFTER we finished… He must not have wanted to hear what we had to say. (just kidding, he was running around like always). After we finished, Frank Henry conducted the typical weekly manager’s meeting, which was not quite as intriguing as we were, but that’s okay! We also got really good feedback on the post-in-service survey!
to encourage the audience to drink more water :)

The soda that we so kindly asked them to remove
since it was contradicting our entire presentation...

Since the presentation was our “big stressor” for this week, we decided to burn off any remaining tension at Elevation! It’s a rec center near Edmond, OK full of trampolines! For the first 30 minutes or so, we were kind of timid with our jumping abilities and were continually shown-up by 7 year olds. Once we decided that that was not acceptable, we put on our big-girl pants, manned-up, and tried some stunts! In all, I think we showed those 7 year olds who is boss. (Mind you, one of them said “Do you want me to show you how to do a cartwheel?” to Nova. The nerve of these children; think we can’t do anything. Well we showed them!) In the end, it was super fun and I wish we would have looked them up on week 3 instead of week 7. They also had a foam pit, which Nova got stuck in. I laughed…a lot, but don’t worry I pulled her out eventually! This weekend we went to a roller derby in Kansas with Jeanelle. I had never been to one, nor had I seen the movie Whip It, so it was be pretty interesting! On the way home, we basically drove through a monsoon. I can’t believe we only have ONE WEEK left! I feel like we just got here! **Fun Fact- Curtis (super cool office buddy) is a CHEF! Who knew, right!? **
